Diving Packages in Koh Tao: Which One Is Actually Worth It? (2026 Guide)

Every dive centre in Koh Tao sells packages. The word gets used so loosely that it's become almost meaningless — a "package" can mean anything from a discount on 10 fun dives to a course bundled with accommodation bundled with gear rental bundled with a price you can't actually verify. This guide cuts through that and tells you exactly what the packages at Carabao Diving include, what they cost, and which one makes sense for your trip.

We've structured this around the four types of traveller who typically come to Koh Tao: the first-timer who's never dived, the already-certified diver who wants to explore, the diver who wants to add a certification, and the serious diver who wants a week of diving and nothing else.

Diving Package Overview: Carabao Diving 2026

All course-based packages include full equipment (BCD, regulator, wetsuit, mask, fins, tank), SSI digital learning materials, boat trips from Chalok Bay, and your SSI certification registration. There are no add-on fees for materials or certification cards — what you see is what you pay.

Package 1: Open Water Course + Accommodation

This is our most popular package and one of the best-value learn-to-dive deals in Southeast Asia. The SSI Open Water course (4 days, max 4 students per instructor, beach departure from Chalok Bay) is bundled with 3 nights at the Carabao Diving beachfront resort.

The practical advantage is simple: you're sleeping 30 seconds from the water. No taxis, no morning logistics, no sitting in traffic on a motorbike in dive gear. You wake up, walk to the dive shop, and you're ready. The dorm option comes in at 9,900 THB — essentially the cost of the course alone elsewhere. The private room option adds 1,000 THB for a double room to yourself.

Package 2: Open Water + Advanced Adventurer (Full Week)

The complete beginner-to-advanced pathway, done back to back in one trip. Four days of Open Water followed immediately by two days of Advanced Adventurer — five adventure dives including deep (30m), navigation, night dive, and two more of your choosing. By the end of the week you have 9 logged dives and an Advanced certification that gives you access to virtually every recreational dive site in the world.

Combined price is around 18,000 THB — a meaningful discount compared to booking the two courses separately. This is the package we most commonly recommend to travellers with 6–8 days in Koh Tao who are serious about diving. You leave the island a genuinely capable diver, not just someone who has a card.

One honest note: doing both courses back to back is physically tiring. Six days of diving is real work. Sleep well, stay hydrated, and don't add heavy social activities in the evenings if you want to get the most out of the Advanced dives. The divers who rush this and arrive sleep-deprived to Day 5 don't enjoy it as much as those who pace themselves.

Package 3: 10 Fun Dive Package

For certified divers who want to explore Koh Tao's dive sites without committing to a fixed schedule. The 10-dive package gives you flexibility — use the dives over any number of days during your stay, mix morning and afternoon departures, and choose sites based on conditions and what you want to see.

At approximately 9,000 THB for 10 dives, this works out to around 900 THB per dive — significantly cheaper than paying per dive at 1,000–1,200 THB each. All equipment is included. Our groups are capped at 6 certified divers per divemaster, departing from Chalok Bay by longtail.

Typical site rotation across a 10-dive package from Chalok Bay: Shark Island, Twins, White Rock, Laem Thian, HTMS Sattakut (wreck), and — for Advanced certified divers — Chumphon Pinnacle and Southwest Pinnacle. We adapt the rotation based on conditions, recent marine life sightings, and what the group wants to prioritise.

Package 4: Try Scuba + Open Water

Designed for people who genuinely aren't sure whether they'll enjoy diving. The Try Scuba experience (2,500 THB) is a half-day introduction: one shallow dive with an instructor, no theory required, no commitment. If you love it — and most people do — you roll directly into the Open Water course the next day.

We offer a small discount when you book both together upfront (~11,500 THB combined). If you do Try Scuba as a standalone and then decide to do Open Water separately, the Try Scuba fee doesn't offset the course cost — so if there's any real likelihood you'll want to continue, the combined booking saves money.

What's Not Included in Any Package

Being transparent about this: none of our packages include ferry transfers to Koh Tao, travel insurance, meals (unless specified in accommodation packages), personal spending on the island, or tipping for guides (not required, always appreciated). Equipment is included in all packages. There are no certification card processing fees, no "materials surcharge," and no surprise extras at checkout.

How to Choose the Right Package

The honest decision tree: if you've never dived, book Open Water + accommodation. If you have a week and want to maximise it, book Open Water + Advanced. If you're already certified and just want to dive, book the 10-dive package. If you're nervous, book Try Scuba first and decide from there.

The one thing we'd push back on: don't choose a package primarily on price. The difference between a 9,900 THB course at a dive centre with a 1:8 student-to-instructor ratio and a 9,900 THB course with a 1:4 ratio is enormous in practice. Ask the dive centre their group size limits before you book — that number tells you more about quality than any price comparison.
